Staying ahead of the curve with the latest consumer trends is more important than ever, as eating and drinking out now becomes a luxury for many. As consumers look to cut down on spending and go out less frequently, operators need to work harder to justify their prices and keep consumers coming back through the door. Our Food and Drink Trends content is all about helping our customers keep up to date with what consumers want to see on menus, and ensuring their offering truly hits the mark.

This bitesized episode is one of three, so far, in our 2023 Food and Drink Trends series. In this episode, we speak to James Ashurst, Client Director at CGA by NielsenIQ, about the world of retro food and drink.
As data and insights specialists focusing on the UK out of home market, CGA are experts when it comes to understanding consumer attitudes, motivations and choices that are shaping the eating out market. That’s why last year we worked in partnership with CGA to come up with our 2023 Food and Drink Trends. To do this, we conducted a bespoke consumer survey, commissioned depth interviews with food influencers and chefs, and added a wealth of desk research too.
In this episode, we discuss our 2023 Trend “Retro Love”. We talk to James about why our team at Bidfood are so excited about this trend specifically this year, and what it means for operators. We also discuss some great examples of nostalgic food and drink we’ve spotted ourselves recently, and we reflect on why we think consumers are increasingly wanting to take a trip down memory lane with food and drink.
