Chef’s Choice Awards – winning products

The Chef’s Choice Awards are designed to showcase the creative and innovative work of the foodservice industry from suppliers, wholesalers and manufacturers. Hosted by market-leading B2B titles The Grocer, Restaurant, and Food Manufacture, the high standards found across the industry are reflected in the entries and winners.

 

Winning featured products: 

 

  • Premium Selection spiced parsnip, maple and pecan cake (18546) – 2017 cakes, biscuits and scones winner. A moist spiced parsnip and sultana sponge, filled and topped with sweet maple flavour cream cheese frosting, finished with pecan nuts and caramel.

 

  • Premium Selection butternut squash, aubergine, feta and pomegranate moussaka (18450) – 2017 vegetarian ready meals and portions winner. Butternut squash layered with sautéed sliced potato and fried aubergines with tomato, courgette, pomegranate seeds, cinnamon and mint sauce, topped with creamy feta cheese sauce and pumpkin seeds.

Caterer Product Excellence Awards – winning products

The Caterer’s Product Excellence Awards annually recognise excellence and innovation in food, drink and equipment products within the hospitality sector. In 2017 there were twenty-eight categories to enter products into.  Then the judges chose 3 finalists in each category after which one product was crowned as the winner, having been judged as the best of the best! On top of this there were also 2 ‘winner of winner’ awards.

Foodservice Quality Food Awards – winning product

The UK Foodservice Quality Food Awards recognises the best in food and drink in the expanding foodservice sector. With a broad spectrum of categories available to enter, it is an outstanding achievement to win a Q Award as the products are judged by renowned industry experts, so to win means they’re quite simply the best!

 

Winning featured product: 

 

  • Premium Selection Korean pork belly strips (19050) – 2017 frozen food – savoury winner. Slow cooked British pork belly strips marinated in mild Korean gochajang paste. Judges comments: “Great product – building heat and aftertaste. Very on trend and versatile. Lovely flavour. Pack size is perfect and like the cooking versatility. Authentic flavour, good kick but not overpowering.”
 

Free From Eating Out Awards – winning products

The FreeFrom Eating Out Awards are now in their fourth year. Since the introduction of the FIC regulations in November 2014 allergen aware ‘freefrom’ catering has been in growth in foodservice, and the awards encourage innovation and celebrate excellence. Here at Bidfood we entered these awards for the first time in 2017. This is in recognition of our growing efforts and commitment to gluten-free food.

 

Winning featured products: 

 

  • Premium Selection gluten free brie and beetroot chutney tart in kale pastry (60648) – 2017 gold award winner food manufactured for foodservice – savoury category. A creamy brie sauce topped with a sweet beetroot chutney in a gluten-free kale pastry. Judges comments: “Massively useful catering product – especially since it is both gluten and milk free. Excellent that it is both fortified and high in fibre. Good colour, soft, fresh texture. Really great product”.

 

  • Premium Selection gin fizz and elderflower cake (60679) – 2017 shortlisted food manufactured for foodservice – sweet category. Gin, lime and elderflower cheesecake on a gluten-free biscuit base, topped with lime glaze and bronze sugar flakes.
 

BFFF Foodservice Awards (British Frozen Food Federation) – winning products

BFFF (British Frozen Food Federation) is the UK’s frozen food trade association and is dedicated to promoting and protecting the frozen food industry. With 7 categories the BFFF Foodservice Awards recognise the best new products within these categories each year, with the top 3 awarded gold, silver or bronze.
