Last month Bidfood’s Birmingham depot raised
£5,350 for the
Stroke Association in memory of a young colleague who passed away. The funds raised will directly support stroke survivors across the local area and fund future life-saving research. Long-standing Customer Service Executive, Matthew Corbet, was only 30 years old when he suffered the severe stroke earlier this year that sadly led to his passing. Since then, the team at at the Birmingham depot have been fundraising through a host of activities; from depot raffles, quizzes and bake sales, to mufti days and a customer fundraising race event. As a further commemoration of Matthew, Bidfood’s Birmingham Depot chose the Stroke Association as their charity of choice to support at their annual employee recognition awards. Talking about the cause, Simon Stretch, General Manager at Bidfood Birmingham said: “The team and I here in Birmingham were devastated with the passing of young Matt. In memory of his life, we wanted to raise as much as we could to support this amazing charity and the work that they do to rebuild the lives of people and their families struggling with the effects of stroke. “Since Matt’s passing, I have engaged the services of a qualified counsellor to talk directly to his colleagues for support, along with organising future NHS Wellness Clinics to carry out thorough health assessments for our employees to keep their health in check.” The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading stroke charity, which regularly supports stroke survivors and their families as they look to rebuild their lives after stroke. Joanne Burr, Regional Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, commented : “We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Bidfood for raising such an incredible amount of money in honour of Matthew. The money raised will really help us to support local stroke survivors and their families, as well as fund the latest research that will help us prevent more strokes from happening in the future. “Sadly, there are over 1.2 million people in the UK living with the effects of a stroke, and we wouldn’t be able to support these people without the generosity of supporters like our friends at Bidfood, so from everyone at the Stroke Association, thank you!”
