Ingredients
For 500ml béchamel sauce: | |
Whole milk | 500ml |
Onion, halved | 1 |
Everyday Favourites bay leaf | 1 |

Everyday Favourites unsalted butter | 50g |
Everyday Favourites plain white flour | 50g |
For the pasta bake | |
Everyday Favourites pasta of your choice | 400g |
Béchamel (see ingredients and method) | 250ml |
Everyday Favourites Bolognese cooking sauce | 300g |
Everyday Favourites grated mature white Cheddar | 200g |
Everyday Favourites grated Mozzarella | 100g |
Everyday Favourites natural breadcrumbs for topping (optional) | a sprinkle |
Method
Here’s a simple oven baked version of the UK’s favourite pasta dish. Combining a Bolognese sauce, a bechamel sauce and grated mature Cheddar, creates a creamy richness with an added pizza-like mozzarella topping. Comfort food at its best! …for the béchamel sauce 1. Gently bring the milk to the boil in a small saucepan with the onion, studded with the bay and cloves. Turn off the heat and leave to infuse for 20 mins.
2. Melt the butter in another saucepan, then add the flour. Stir continuously until a roux. Continue stirring for 2 mins.
3. Remove the onion, bay and cloves from the milk with a slotted spoon and discard. Gradually add the infused milk to the roux, stirring as you go, until a smooth sauce. Cook for 5-10 mins, stirring continuously, until the sauce has thickened. Season to taste. …for the Pasta Bake 4. Pre-heat the oven to 180’C (fan) or 200’C.
5. Cook the béchamel sauce as per separate instructions.
6. Cook the dried pasta as per instructions. Drain and set aside.
7. Combine the Everyday Favourites Bolognese sauce, home-made béchamel sauce and drained, cooked pasta.
8. Mix well before adding some pasta cooking water to loosen up the consistency, if required.
9. Transfer half of the pasta mix to an oven-proof dish.
10. Sprinkle the Everyday Favourites mature Cheddar cheese over the pasta mix.
11. Finish by adding the remainder of the pasta.
12. Top with the grated Everyday Favourites mozzarella cheese. (Add breadcrumbs if a crunchy topping is required)
13. Place in the oven.
14. Bake for about 25- 30 minutes until the cheese topping is melted and golden brown.
15. Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 5–10 minutes prior to serving.
16. Serve with a fresh green salad and garlic bread to mop up the cheese and sauce.
