From plate to post: how chefs can rock social media

For all chefs in the industry, social media has become the secret ingredient for chefs to spice up their careers, garnish their personal brand, and serve up mouthwatering connections with food enthusiasts. In this blog post, we’ll be providing a recipe for social media success and sharing what has worked for us… It’s guaranteed to leave your followers begging for seconds.

Cook up your social media strategy

Strategy?! Don’t worry, it’s not as daunting as it sounds. All you need to do is cook up a strategy which suits your unique expertise:

  1. Identify your target audience – is it just food lovers or is there a specific audience that you want to attract to your restaurant/pub/place of work?
  2. Set some goals – this could be to increase the number of people who see your post (impressions) or how many people like, comment or share your posts (engagements ).
  3. Choose the social media platforms which will help you showcase your culinary artistry to the world. We think Instagram is great for showcasing your finished dishes or posting videos of the process and LinkedIn is as equally important for this with the addition of being able to make quality connections in your industry.

Plating perfection: show off your culinary creativity

Your culinary creations are works of art, and your social media feed should reflect that. Get playful and curate a feed that’s visually appetising. You don’t need a professional camera to take a good photo, most mobile phones have fantastic cameras now.
Experiment with different angles, make sure the lighting is good and let your creativity run wild. Practice makes perfect!

Stir up engagement: make them hungry for more

As a chef, you know how to stir up flavours in the kitchen, and now it’s time to stir up engagement on social media. At Bidfood, one of our main priorities on social media is capturing our chefs creating their dishes through tantalizing recipe videos and sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of them cooking.

It doesn’t have to be hard either, just grab your phone and stand it somewhere in view (you can get cheap phone tripods nowadays) or simply get someone else in the kitchen to record you cooking. People love seeing the process and your audience will want to keep coming back for more delicious content.

Building a raving fan base: turn up the heat, Chef!

You have the power to build a loyal and passionate fan base, one follower at a time. How? By being you!
We’ve been ensuring that we’re not only showcasing the incredible dishes our chefs create, but also who they are personally. Some of our top viewed videos on Instagram and TikTok are those which provide relatable chef content to users.

Show your personality, share your culinary journey, and let your unique voice shine through. The more authentic and relatable you are, the more fans you’ll gather along the way.

And that’s it, Chef! Social media may seem scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Embrace social media’s power, infuse it with your culinary prowess, and captivate food enthusiasts. Be authentic, engaging, and let your unique personality shine through.
With creativity, engagement and authenticity, your social media presence will be a feast for the eyes. So put on your apron and let the world savor your culinary creations through social media. Bon appétit!
