Do you put First Aid First in the workplace?

Do you put First Aid First in the workplace?
So, why do I need first aid kits I hear you ask? “I won’t hurt myself”. “Why do I need to check or upgrade my first aid kit, I’ve not used it in 6 years”. Just some of the response we hear when discussing first aid.

Well, think again!

Did you know that it is a legal requirement to have a first aid container in the workplace? So what does my employer need to provide?

As stated in the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981:

Duty of employer to make provision for first-aid:

An employer shall provide, or ensure that there are provided, such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first-aid to be rendered to his employees if they are injured or become ill at work

The minimum first-aid provision on any work site is:

  •  A suitably stocked first-aid kit
  • An appointed person to take charge of first-aid arrangements
  • Information for employees about first-aid arrangements

Whilst there is no exact specified number of kits or items which need to be provided for a specified amount of people, the kits need to be adequate for the number of employees. So always ensure you have the enough kits and enough stock.

It’s not only law, it’s the safety of you and everyone around you!

Did you also know that the contents of first aid kits expire? Bandages can deteriorate, wipes can lose their sterile qualities and plasters lose their stickiness. So it’s always worth checking dates and regularly ordering new items or new kits.

So what are some of the essential kits available from Bidfood?
